Vice President Operations - Manufacturing - Metals Fabrication 160K - 190K /+Bonus 

National Manufacturer of Metal Products serving the Electrical Construction Industry looking for a Vice President Operations to support our growing business.  We produce material handling carts, wire handling equipment, pipe products, electrical enclosures, and power distribution assemblies. The VP Operations will provide hands on leadership for Production, Quality Assurance & Compliance, Financial Oversight, Continuous Improvement, Supply Chain and overall Team Building & Leadership.  

The VP Operations will report directly to the ownership and CEO, and will work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team to facilitate Company production goals and objectives while promoting a positive, efficient, and safe work environment.  The VP Operations will be responsible for P&L, Strategic Oversight, Workflow Optimization, Capacity Planning, Technology Integration and Risk Management. 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 10 - 15 years experience in Sheet Metal and Welded Metal Design.  We ae looking for a candidate that is self-motivated, is comfortable on the floor - versus the office; can troubleshoot, solve problems, motivate and lead employees, communicates effectively, and enjoys working in a small company environment.

Production Management:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive production plans that align with organizational goals, ensuring maximum efficiency and profitability.
  • Analyze production workflows to identify inefficiencies, implement corrective measures, and streamline operations to achieve optimal performance.
  • Assess production capacity and allocate resources effectively to meet current and future demand.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate advanced technologies and machinery into production lines, improving output and precision.
  • Anticipate potential disruptions or challenges in the production process and devise contingency plans to mitigate risks.

Team Leadership:

  • Build a high-performance culture by motivating, mentoring, and empowering team members to reach their full potential.
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and expectations clearly within the production team to ensure accountability and productivity.
  • Address interpersonal or operational conflicts within the team proactively and professionally to maintain a cohesive work environment.
  • Identify high-potential employees and prepare them for leadership roles through tailored training and development programs.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Establish robust quality control checkpoints at various stages of production to ensure compliance with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations, ensuring that all practices align with industry best practices.
  • Investigate product defects or process failures, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure that the facility and processes are always prepared for internal and external audits by maintaining thorough documentation and procedures.

Financial Oversight:

  • Create and manage production budgets, ensuring that all activities are cost-effective and aligned with financial objectives.
  • Identify and execute strategies to reduce production costs without compromising on quality or deadlines.
  • Track and analyze production KPIs, such as cycle time, efficiency, and material usage, to identify trends and drive improvements.
  •  Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote a culture of innovation by encouraging team members to propose new ideas and solutions for production challenges.
  • Compare production performance against industry standards and competitors, implementing improvements to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Introduce skill enhancement programs for employees to adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other efficiency-focused methodologies to reduce waste and increase productivity.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments, such as design, engineering, procurement, and sales, to align production activities with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the customer service team to understand client requirements and ensure that production schedules align with delivery expectations.
  • Establish channels for receiving and acting on feedback from internal and external stakeholders to refine production processes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of BS degree required.
  • 10 - 15 years of experience preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively; capable of listening intently; visual acuity to process reports.
  • Self-motivated, Can-do and Hands-on attitude that isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Able to work in a small company environment.
  • Experience with sheet metal and welded metal design.
