Location: Transportation Department
Schedule: 9 months, 30-40 hours per week

Required Documents:

• Proof of MMR vaccination (if born after 12/31/1956)
• Certified five-year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no moving violations
• Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Position Summary

The School Bus Driver plays a critical role in student transportation, ensuring the safe and timely transport of students to and from school, field trips, and extracurricular activities. This position requires strict adherence to safety protocols, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage students while maintaining professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Student Safety & Transportation

• Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes, ensuring on-time arrivals and departures.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition.
• Assist students in safely boarding and exiting the bus, including those with special needs.
• Enforce bus safety rules and monitor student behavior to ensure a secure and orderly environment.
• Communicate with school personnel and parents regarding student behavior, safety concerns, and route details.

Operational Duties

• Maintain accurate records of mileage, inspections, maintenance needs, and student attendance.
• Conduct emergency evacuation drills and follow established protocols in case of emergencies.
• Keep the bus clean and sanitized to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
• Monitor road conditions, weather, and traffic to make informed driving decisions.
• Refuel and check vehicle fluids as needed to ensure ongoing bus operation.

Customer Service & Communication

• Provide excellent customer service by addressing student, parent, and staff inquiries professionally.
• Report incidents, disciplinary actions, and concerns to the appropriate school officials.
• Collaborate with transportation supervisors and school administrators to optimize routes and schedules.

Qualifications & Requirements

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of safe driving practices and traffic regulations
• Ability to manage student behavior and enforce safety rules effectively
• Knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work with diverse student populations, including those with special needs

Minimum Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience: Prior experience in school bus driving or commercial vehicle operation preferred
• Licenses & Certifications:
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
  • Bus Driver’s Certificate
  • CPR & First Aid Certification (renewals required)
  • IVP Level Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing, physical exam, and background check

Work Environment

• Primarily seated for extended periods with occasional lifting, bending, and assisting students.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions and potential safety hazards on the road.
• Must be prepared to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
